Medicare & NDIS Guide

At RT Speech and Hearing, we understand that navigating funding options for hearing healthcare can be complex. This guide explains how Medicare and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can help make our services more accessible and affordable for you.

Medicare Coverage for Hearing Services

Medicare provides rebates for eligible hearing services when referred by your GP or specialist. Here’s what you need to know:

What’s Covered

  • Diagnostic hearing assessments conducted by qualified audiologists
  • Follow-up consultations for hearing aid management
  • Tympanometry and other diagnostic tests
  • Hearing aid evaluations and fittings

How It Works

Eligibility Requirements

  • You must have a current Medicare card
  • A valid referral from a medical practitioner is required
  • Services must be provided by a qualified, Medicare-registered audiologist such as RT Speech and Hearing

NDIS Funding for Hearing Services

Who Qualifies for NDIS Support?

An NDIS participant is a person (aged 26 to 65 years old) with a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to take part in everyday activities, has met the access requirements for NDIS and been provided with a participant number to access planning and supports.

How We Can Help NDIS Participants

Self-Managed Plans: If you have a self-managed NDIS plan, you have the flexibility to choose your own service providers, including RT Speech and Hearing. You can use your NDIS funding to pay for our services and claim reimbursement directly.

Plan-Managed Participants: If your plan is managed by a plan management provider, we offer services such as:

  • Assistive Technology (AT)
  • Comprehensive hearing assessments
  • Hearing aid consultations and fittings
  • Assistive listening devices
  • Communication strategy training
  • Hearing aid maintenance and support
  • Custom ear protection
  • Tinnitus management programmes
