Adult Acquired Language and Speech Disorders
Life events such as stroke, brain injury, or progressive neurological conditions can cause significant changes in communication. Our team assesses and provides therapy for:
- Aphasias: Impaired understanding or expression of language, often following stroke or brain injury.
- Dysarthrias: Weakness or incoordination of the speech muscles, leading to slurred or slow speech.
- Stuttering: Assessment and management for adults who experience disruptions in speech fluency.
PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance)
We recognise and support individuals with PDA, a profile often associated with autism, characterised by an extreme avoidance of everyday demands and expectations. Our assessments are sensitive to the unique needs of those with PDA, guiding families and educators in understanding and supporting effective communication strategies.
Other Communication and Voice Disorders
We also assess a wide spectrum of speech, language, voice, and social communication needs, including childhood apraxia of speech, voice disorders, and pragmatic (social) communication difficulties.
