Productivity Hacks

It’s December! Here are some tips to strike tasks off to-do lists efficiently and switch off.

Ready?

1)        Turn off email notifications when writing THAT report.

2)        Play to your strengths and delegate everything else. For example, clinicians should focus on clinical content. Delegate non-clinical aspects of the work to non-clinicians.

3)        Be firm and respectful in communications. For example, when offering appointments, state what times you can do, instead of leaving it open for others to initiate.

4)        Inform others (clients, participants, plan nominees, other providers) about your deadlines for appointment placeholders and what you plan to do with the placeholders once deadlines pass.

5)        Block out time for non-face-to-face tasks in advance and stick to them.

6)        Automate, automate, automate. Let systems do the heavy lifting. For example, consider using dictation apps for health professionals for note writing and invest in client management systems with robust technical support and data integration functionality.

7)        Value clinical supervision sessions. Productivity rockets as clinical reasoning sharpens. The latter should occur as one regularly spends time with the right supervisor.

8)        Make time for breaks. Thinking is hard. Thinking improves when one feels recharged.
